According to the research by scientists from the Medical University of Lodz “Tick-borne diseases in Poland – occurrence and diagnostic difficulties”, since 2013 there has been a steady increase in the number of cases of diseases caused by ticks, such as Lyme disease or tick-borne encephalitis.
People who spend time in forest and meadow areas for recreational, tourist, or professional purposes are particularly at risk of infection. In response to the growing demand for products that prevent tick bites, textile products with appropriate functions have been developed. With the consumers of these products and a wide range of protective, specialised, sportswear, children’s clothing, and lingerie manufacturers in mind, a special finishing treatment has been created. Jackets, hats, or trousers made from fabrics treated with this finishing provide protection against insect and tick bites. In addition, the Insect proCover finish has antibacterial properties, offering a 2-in-1 solution.
This also ensures protection against microorganisms and hygiene comfort for the user. The effectiveness of the offered solution is confirmed by specialised tests. The technology used in the finish was developed as part of the international partnership program of the Eureka E! Initiative. 8083 TICKOTEX. This initiative was established to promote international cooperation in research and development.
Zakład Włókienniczy Biliński acted as the leader of the scientific consortium. The project was also supported by the Institute of Textile Engineering in Łódź, which assists companies in the process of implementing the latest technologies in modern textile production. Cooperation within the consortium was also undertaken by Ozyegin University from Turkey and The National R&D Institute for Textiles and Leather from Romania and many foreign companies such as: KIVANC TEKSTIL (Turkey), Hofigal Export-Import SA., Proxima Moda S.R.L. and S.C. Conflux SA. (Romania), Inotex LTD and KNITVA s.r.o. (Czech Republic).
Thanks to the international exchange of experience and knowledge and the latest technology, the textile industry is able to supply multifunctional products with a wide range of applications. Insect proCover is another solution for users who value comfort, high quality and utility. Additionally, it’s worth noting that thanks to the implementation of appropriate production solutions, the processing time of textile products has been shortened, allowing for water and energy savings.
